I'm a little late to the game, I think, but this one was just too much fun to skip.

Slow burn or love at first sight: Definitely slow burn. I like to see the relationship grow and change over time.

Fake dating or secret dating: Fake dating all the way! It's kind of a ridiculous trope, but I enjoy it deeply.

Enemies to lovers or best friends to lovers: Best friends to lovers. My tastes can be bafflingly wholesome sometimes.

Oh no there's only one bed or long distance with correspondence: Oh no, this is the first difficult question! Only one bed is so good for fraught intimacy, but having characters write to each other is so cute and adorable, and I feel like in a way it encourages the characters to open up more, given the greater emotional safety yet also greater loneliness of physical distance. I guess I've talked myself into saying correspondence!

Fantasy AU or modern AU: Fantasy AU! I love them, especially when there's enough worldbuilding to bring its own flavor.

Smut or fluff: Hmmm. This is difficult for the opposite reason as only one bed versus epistolary -- I don't feel like either smut or fluff is often a big draw for me by itself, so it all comes down to execution and how many feelings are involved. I guess I'll say smut.

Mutual pining or domestic bliss: Mutual pining. All the mutual pining. I need to find some mutually pining OT3 fic just so I can have 50% more pining in the same fic!

Cut for length! )

I feel like that last answer is especially ironic coming directly after the previous one: all the misery, but like, only for a few people at a time, please! But that's me for you, I guess.

Hey all, this is mostly a heads up that I'll be doing the [community profile] snowflake_challenge this January, which I expect will approximately double my posting frequency to around four entries a week, so you can adjust your expectations and/or reading lists accordingly.

Snowflake Challenge, January 1 - 31.

For the first challenge, I've put up an updated intro post and linked it in my profile. It's something I've been meaning to do for ages, so I guess this challenge is getting off to a pretty good start for me!

It's December now! What better time to finish posting my Inktober scribbles?

This final batch has three low weirdness prompts and four medium weirdness ones from the neural net. I can't believe my weirdness preference diminished as I went along!

Content notes: implied animal harm in the context of predation.

The final seven! )

Ultimately, I found Inktober tiring and sometimes frustrating, but also rewarding and even fun. I'm pretty pleased with a few of the drawings I did, and it was nice to spend some time on visual art after having neglected it for an age.

I don't know if I'll do Inktober again year, but I'm glad I did this time!

I got back to a more even weirdness split with this batch -- three prompts from the neural net's lowest weirdness setting, two from middle weirdness, and three from high weirdness.

Content notes: None this time! Unless you count one drawing I visibly gave up on half way through.

Spot the impatience? )

I did enjoy interpreting the word that has no English meaning.

This batch of Inktober is half prompts from the neural net's lowest weirdness set and half from the highest. I will accept no middle ground in weirdness.

Content notes: one insect (a butterfly).

Drawings! )

I'm kind of tickled that I drew fanart two days in a row, even if I only know one of the fandoms by internet osmosis. But with a prompt like "pin goose", I couldn't resist!

Every day in October, I drew a picture in ink. This was mostly stubbornness: I only sporadically draw and hardly ever in ink, so I wasn't really invested in the practical side of it, but once I started, I wanted to see it through.

And I did, and I'm proud of that! Not because it would have been bad to take a break or stop if that's what I'd needed to do, but because I don't have a lot of practice sticking with things just because I want to, and I like that this time, I did. And it's given me practice in accepting things I've made whose flaws frustrate me, and that's probably good for me as well.

Instead of using the official Inktober prompts, I used these amazing prompts by a neural net (thanks to [personal profile] alchimie for linking them!), each day picking my favorite from the three levels of weirdness. In this installment, that's two from the most normal set and three each from the weirder ones, which seems like a nicely even split to me.

Content notes: several pen drawings of invertebrates and one of a sort of skeleton creature follow. Also, the scans are pretty messy.

Anyway, without further ado! )

Borrowed from [personal profile] amovingtarget! (And reworded a bit in places, because I'm me.)

Flailing about stats behind the cut! )

My main takeaway from this is that I dream up way wilder stuff than I ever actually write down and post. And I kind of want to work on that!

It feels increasingly weird to have content over there that isn't mirrored here on Dreamwidth, so have a little getting to know you meme I was tagged for by the excellent [tumblr.com profile] villainny!

One/Name: I'll happily answer to either E or enemy. :D

Two/Birthday: I refuse to answer on the grounds that I may incriminate myself? I'm not much for being the center of attention.

Three/Zodiac: Capricorn. Memes always seem to say that makes me some kind of competent, practical person. The mind boggles.

Four/Height: Somewhere in the 5'9 range. I'm not being cagey this time, I just haven't been competently measured in an age!

Five/Hobbies: Reading fanfic, novels, articles, blogs; writing occasionally; playing odd indie games, or sometimes more mainstream ones if prodded; DMing the world's smallest D&D campaign.

Six/Favorite Colors: Green, gray, cool colors in general, brown, black.

Seven/Favorite Books: Gosh. I'll say the works of CJ Cherryh, Martha Wells, and Maureen McHugh come to mind. But how in the world can I pick?

Eight/Last Song I Listened To: I've got "Dog Days Are Over" by Florence and the Machine playing right now!

Nine/Last Movie Watched: The heartbreaking El lugar sin lĂmites. (Content notes: homophobia, transphobia, sexual violence, other violence, orientalism, cultural appropriation, plain old emotional devastation. But I'm not sorry I watched it.)

Ten/Inspiration: I think the thing gives me more ideas than anything else is when something is almost what I want, but not quite. The combination of "yes, like that" and "but what if--" gets my brain working like nothing else.

Eleven/Meaning of Username: I'm a terrible perfectionist, and it gets in the way of so many things. It's a reminder to myself to try and focus not on avoiding mistakes, but on finding and creating things that are good.

On tumblr, I would traditionally tag some of you to do this meme too, but that feels a little pushy here on DW, somehow. So -- instead I will invite you all to play if you're interested, and not otherwise!

Because the excellent [personal profile] stunt_muppet imported this meme over from tumblr and tagged me for it! Following her example, I'm switching out some of the categories for ones that are more applicable to my life, but I'll try to keep to the spirit of the meme as best I can.

Top five games I've played this year )

Top five TV shows I saw in 2018 )

Top five songs to listen to on repeat in 2018 )

Top five books of 2018 )

Five good things that happened to me in 2018 )

Instead of tagging anyone else to do this meme, I'm going to say to raise your hand in the comments if you'd like help brainstorming categories you can use to do this meme too. I'd love to read about your year!

Comment with the name of a ship and I will explain why I ship it/don't ship it.

Except that, being me, it's entirely possible that even if I don't ship it to begin with, I'll have invented a rationale before I reach the end of my comment. So, you know. Do with that information as you will!
