READ

Some fanfic, but I seem to be having a hard time settling on anything at the moment.

However, I did read all of Down the Rabbit Hole by Issendai, which is a thoughtful and in depth look at the abusive behaviors that some people will publicly admit to in forums for parents who are estranged from their adult children. It's very interesting, in a strange, sad, awful kind of way.

WATCHED

The Good Place 4x05, "Employee of the Bearimy". )

Doctor Who through 10x05, "Oxygen". )

It is a hypothetical question about a family that's supportive except when it isn't. )

My two-part question is: how easy or difficult is it for you to imagine that person X might be deeply hurt despite the assurances and caveats, and how rare or common would you guess it is for someone in X's place to feel that way?

The specifics of the question are genuinely hypothetical, but I am sufficiently boggled by the answers I've gotten from someone else that I figured I'd do a reality check.

So according to some article about Pacific Rim, you aren't supposed to laugh at action scenes? I feel so confused now. Like, how else do you enjoy them?

I mean, okay, there are some I appreciate on a purely aesthetic level, and occasionally one will make me feel actually tense, but -- seriously, I am so confused right now! What else are over-the-top action films for? I thought they were trying to make you laugh with incredulous delight!

Apparently I'm even worse at watching movies than I thought.
