1. One is gratified to see that atevi narrative conventions -- in which our hero spends most of the book trying desperately to figure out what's going on, until suddenly EVERYTHING HAPPENS AT ONCE -- are still observed.
2. This exchange between Ilisidi and Bren:
is everything to me.
3. I KNEW IT I KNEW THAT WASN'T A REUNIONER PRAKUYO HAD IN THERE HOLY SHIT, HOLY SHIT.
I mean, clearly there are essays to be written about just how cold Bren was there, and the astonishing time bombs he's now lined up for the next generation or three to deal with, but I think it's going to take me a little while to get past the sheer breathtaking vertigo of the moment when I realized just what had been going on all this time.
I guess this is what happens when you let your audience wait three trilogies for a reveal?
