Doctor Who S10 and sundry

Some fanfic, but I seem to be having a hard time settling on anything at the moment.
However, I did read all of Down the Rabbit Hole by Issendai, which is a thoughtful and in depth look at the abusive behaviors that some people will publicly admit to in forums for parents who are estranged from their adult children. It's very interesting, in a strange, sad, awful kind of way.

The Good Place 4x05, "Employee of the Bearimy" spoilers:
I'm still a little disappointed that if they weren't going to have Tahani and Eleanor bond from the start, they didn't at least let them kiss once they'd made up. They had that incredibly scenic backdrop and everything!
And if there's anyone who'd explicitly sit down and talk about romantic and sexy contingencies while one of them is missing a chunk of memory, surely it's Chidi and Eleanor. He's so meticulous and willing to consider all the things, and she's so, you know, ready to consider swinging on a moment's notice!
But the journey into the Bad Place was just as much fun as I've come to expect from this show, so there's that.
Doctor Who spoilers through 10x05, "Oxygen":
I immediately loved Bill, who is a glorious geek in the best possible way -- not in the sense of accumulating an armory of factoids to belligerently assail lesser fans with, but in the sense of finding things fascinating.
Plus, a sapphic black woman on Doctor Who! I was completely unspoilered for that, and so delighted! Although I feel like there must be people who've spoken much more eloquently than I could about the decision to take her crush and turn her into a dangerous alien.
As for the Doctor, my favorite moment was probably in 10x03 "Thin Ice", when he says to Bill that he needs her to give him orders because he serves at the pleasure of humanity. Apparently I am really extremely here for an entirely nonsexual D/S relationship in which he calls her "boss".
Bafflingly, I haven't been able to find any fics about them tagged Platonic BDSM or Non-Sexual Submission. They were just so sweet like that! I guess it's true that there hasn't been any follow-up to speak of in the two episodes since, but it's not like that has ever stopped fandom before. It's a saddening lack.

Because I don't feel like he would actually want to be reasonable and confine the dynamic to the space of a scene, but Bill might understandably have mixed feelings about having command of a sort of genie in a police box who gives her the power of life and death over countless people throughout Earth's history and future.
And it's quite a role reversal for them, given both his position as her tutor and their relative ages, which would take some adjusting to, and perhaps some careful thought given to not placing undue weight on her while she's just starting out at university and the life she's hoped for. So there would have to be character arcs, and thinkiness, and enough plot-of-the-week sort of fare to carry it all, and basically it would be a really ambitious project!

Date: 2019-11-01 01:44 am (UTC)"Serving at the pleasure of humanity", gosh, like is that the actual line in the episode? Because that's...yeah, my brain would go exactly where yours did with that. Especially with this being the Twelfth Doctor, where some of his younger incarnations from 70s Who chafed a bit more at interacting with humanity. I like the idea of that being something he's come into as he's aged and lived among humans longer.

And thank you for providing some more context on that! In the seasons I've seen, he's always seemed to favor humans (even if we do make pretty problematic faves), so it's pretty cool to learn that that shows character development on his part.
