So I read feminist blog posts instead.  That happens to other people, right?

Sometimes ethical arguments are just so soothing.

I do the same thing but instead of feminist ethics, I read about how other people are crazy.

I find it comforting or something, I don't know...?

Nope, I just read the most sickly sweet fluffy-yet-still-managing-to-be-entirely-in-character fanfic. Like cotton candy seasoned with the most unhealthy kind of sugar. Or I write it. Which admittedly, does not happen very often.

I feel the record ought to state that I wholly endorse over-the-top fluffy fannish fluff as a coping mechanism. I tend to like mine well-seasoned with angst, but seriously, you have no idea how many mental files I've got that might as well be titled "John Reese Needs A Lot Of Hugs, But Is Possibly Too Broken To Get Them (Spoiler: He Does Anyway)". Whether or not I bother keeping anyone in character depends entirely on HOW MUCH SCHMOOP I REQUIRE.

Sometimes, though... maybe it's that I burn out on emotion, even emotion by proxy? I'm not sure that's it exactly. But sometimes even the most syrupy of hugfests is actually too mentally taxing for me, and I find refuge in something more abstract. I dunno!

Tangent: Have you kept up with POI at all? Because this season, OMG. I cannot even.
